On the Couch - A Thinking Tool
The Workable Next Move
This isn’t about fixing your life.
It’s about slowing the noise enough to see what’s workable.
Take your time. Nothing here needs to be perfect.
1. Let’s name what’s actually happening
Most problems feel heavier because we turn them into personal failures.
This is not a crisis. This is a system that needs looking at.
2. Let’s clear the emotional static
Feelings are real - but they are not always the problem.
This isn’t about positivity.
It’s about calming the nervous system enough to think.
3. Let’s separate the mess
You can’t work with what’s all tangled together.
4. Moving without full clarity
Clarity usually comes after movement, not before it
How clear do I honestly feel right now?
Tell yourself - I accept that this is enough to take one step.
5. One small shift
Progress doesn’t need confidence. It needs direction.
Follow-ups
6. Untie your identity from the outcome
This step matters more than it looks.
If this attempt fails, what might it teach me?
Not sure how this works? See a simple example → “The thing I’m dealing with is feeling distant from my partner.” Fixed: our schedules. Flexible: when and how we talk.
There is no perfect solution.
Only a next move that lets you breathe again.
